Vision Shattered
A project for Moi Aussi Art Gallery and ETNIA Barcelona
This piece is a reflection of my journey with vision loss and the way it has reshaped how I
experience connection. I lost sight in my right eye, which changed how I perceive the world
and interact with it.
With limited vision, it’s easy to lose touch with what’s happening around you, to feel
disconnected, and to withdraw rather than engage. This artwork is an expression of that
struggle—the tension between isolation and the desire to reconnect.
At the heart of the piece, layered wood creates a sense of depth and chaos around the
‘eyes’, symbolizing the inner conflict that comes with losing sight. It represents the feeling of
being cut off from deeper, soulful connections. The chaotic layers echo the loneliness and
separation I felt, like being drawn into a world where it’s harder to reach out and be reached.
Yet, surrounding this core are flowing forms, representing the search for connection despite
these barriers. Elements that strive to escape the depths and to find new ways to engage
with others, even when the most direct path feels blocked.
The sides of the glasses reflect a realization that connection isn’t limited to just one sense or
one way of seeing. Even with obstacles, there are always other paths and other methods to
connect with people. This piece speaks to the idea that while vision may be limited, the
ability to form meaningful relationships and experiences is not.
